About Steven

Steven Grahn is a lifelong musician with eclectic taste. Born in a remote part of Northern California, he started his musical endeavor as a youth with a guitar and a lot of musical passion. In college he stretched himself to become a concert flutist and composer. He studied composition at San Francisco State University and he graduated from Humboldt State University earning a BA in music with an emphasis on alto saxophone and flute. He is now a multi-instrumentalist who has played Rock, Country, Blues, and most recently, Celtic music professionally.

Humble Beginnings

Hayfork Home

Steven was raised in rural northern California. His parents settled in Trinity County where Steven was born. They later moved to Redding, California, where Steven attended high school and began to play music. After high school Steven's college experience led him to musical composition as a medium for expression. His professors from Humboldt State recognized his ability to compose and encouraged him to write music. In addition to composing, Steven began a recording career in the 1980's, working in small studios in various parts of California. He came back to Redding in the 1990's and worked as an engineer at Tally Studios for country star legend Merle Haggard.

After quitting Tally Studios Steven went to work as a music teacher for rural Glenn County. His first solo project, A Trick of the Light, has enjoyed a warm reception far and near. He is currently working on a new project, two pieces of which are featured on the homepage.
